As more and more people worldwide begin working from home, I’m seeing a renewed interest in upgrades to Windows 10. That older PC that’s been gathering dust in the back of the closet will probably run Windows 10 just fine, and a steady stream of reports from my readers confirm that Microsoft is continuing to allow free upgrades to Windows 10 from Windows 7 and Windows 8/8.1.

Hackers can summon Cortana to break into Windows 10 PCs

Cortana on the lock screen has some security exploits.

Microsoft has issued a Windows 10 security update to prevent hackers from breaking into PCs using Cortana. Microsoft’s digital assistant is built into every version of Windows 10, McAfee security researchers discovered it could be summoned from a lock screen to execute malicious software. Any potential hacker would need physical access to a PC, and McAfee details methods to get the digital assistant to index files from a USB drive and execute them.

HP’s tiny Xeon-powered PC puts the Mac Mini to shame

The Z2 Mini has workstation-class parts from Intel and NVIDIA.

HP has unveiled the Z2 Mini, a mini PC that packs workstation-class parts, including an Intel Xeon CPU, NVIDIA Quadro mobile M620 graphics and M.2 SSD tech. It managed to squeeze that power into a 2.3-inch-high case that’s “90 percent smaller than a traditional business-class tower,” HP wrote. In its top configuration, the device is twice as powerful as any mini PC on the market, letting it run up to six displays in a stock configuration.
