Microsoft’s $26.2 Billion LinkedIn Acquisition Now Officially Closed

Microsoft now officially owns LinkedIn, a popular social networking platform geared toward employers and professionals.

The multi-billion acquisition first made headlines in June, and the European Commission has given the acquisition a go-ahead earlier this week, joining the approval of other regulators around the globe, including those in the United States, Canada, Brazil, and South Africa. Russia Bans LinkedIn for Violating Data Protection Laws

The move could be a warning to other US tech companies.

Russians could soon lose access to LinkedIn, following a court decision this week that found the professional social network to be in violation of the country’s data protection laws.

Last year, Russia passed a law requiring any personal data on Russian citizens collected by companies to be stored within the country, the New York Times reports. A Moscow court on Thursday upheld a previous ruling that LinkedIn does not meet that requirement, and Internet service providers could start blocking the site as early as Monday.
