How Supercomputers Are Being Used To Win The Fight Against Coronavirus

Scientific efforts to analyze, map and track the global COVID-19 outbreak are being aided by powerful supercomputers that scientists say may soon help to combat the infectious disease.

Computers capable of ingesting and processing vast amounts of raw data are coming together with the aim of better understanding the novel coronavirus that has now spread to at least 582,000 people in the U.S. and close to two million people globally, according to Johns Hopkins University statistics.

Law enforcement facing onslaught of coronavirus scams that could last for years

One of the most disturbing coronavirus scams Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel has seen starts with a phone call.

The number looks like it’s coming from a health care or government official, who tells the person they’ve called that a loved one is in the hospital with coronavirus. The call recipient needs to give credit card information over the phone, now, to prepay the hospital bills.

YouTube will remove videos falsely linking COVID-19 to 5G

It’s only downplaying videos with ‘plain’ 5G conspiracy theories, however.

The rash of bogus conspiracy theories tying the COVID-19 pandemic to 5G has led to cell tower arson and threats against engineers, and YouTube is planning to crack down on that misinformation. The Google-owned service said it will remove videos that try to make the unsupported connection, as they violate recent policies banning videos promoting “medically unsubstantiated methods” of preventing coronavirus infections. However, it’s stopping short of removing all 5G conspiracy videos.

Scammers are creating Netflix lookalikes to target people staying at home, study finds

Scammers are focusing more attention on people looking to stream content from Netflix during what has quickly become the stay-at-home era.

Researchers at the cybersecurity security firm Check Point recently released a study noting a substantial rise in the number of cyberattacks performed by websites posing as the streaming giant in the wake of the ongoing coronavirus crisis.

Coronavirus May Have Caused The Earth To Stop Vibrating So Much

Coronavirus may have inadvertently caused Earth to vibrate less, with lockdown measures leading to a huge drop in the use of industrial machinery and transportation around the world.

Seismologists have said that since measures to curb the spread of the virus were put in place, there has been a noticeable drop in the planet’s “seismic noise.” This is the persistent vibration of the ground as a result of a multitude of factors, including human activity.
